Why Apple Hates DoubleTwist

DoubleTwist, co-founded by reverse software engineer DVD John, placed an ad next to the main entrance of the  Apple, Inc. flagship store in San Francisco. The banner ad reads ” The cure for iPhone Envy. Your iTunes Library on any device. In seconds.” Thus far there has been no response from Apple, Inc.

DoubleTwist is an application that facilitates management of media files. The software makes Apple’s iTunes libraries playable on any device.  Apple designed the library to only play on their hardware (i.e. iphone, ipod).

The real estate where the store is located rents for 2 million dollars per year. That is heaping load of cash to pay to have a hack for your device advertised right under your nose.  The ad space is apparently owned by The Bay Area’s Commuter Transit System (BART). BART is free to lease the ad space to anyone.

Kudos to DVD John, I’ve been looking for a way to use my iTunes library on other devices. The ad captured my attention, along with the rest of the tech world.
