Birds of a Feather – Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn
Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn are two long legged teen black beauties burning up runways. They recently sat down with Teen Vogue to discuss the difficulties of maintaining friendships and their future.
Although both models are heavily sought after, they’ve found themselves pitted against each other to book the small lot of jobs available for African American models. The pressure resulted in a broken friendship and learning experience.
Chanel says of her and Jourdan’s relationship “I could sit here and tell you, ‘I love Jourdan! We’ve always been the best of friends! But we haven’t. Until recently, we barely even spoke. We went from being super close in the beginning to dead silence if we saw each other backstage at a show. If we did say hi, it was hi, and that’s it.”"
Everyone knows that the fashion business is cut throat. Even more so when you’re not caucasian. Jourdan told Teen Vogue “It’s competition. There aren’t a lot of us, but instead of sticking together, we’re pitted against each other. People will say things in Chanel’s ear like, ‘Jourdan is taking your spot,’ and then they’ll say to me, ‘Don’t trust Chanel.’”
The announcement of Jourdan Dunn’s pregnancy has given the girls a little breathing room to mend fences. The two photo beautifully together and the Teen Vogue shoot is no exception.
