T-Mobile Flop; Sidekick Contacts Lost Forver
In what amounts to perhaps the biggest PR co-mingled tech blunder of the year, T-mobile Sidekick users data including calendars and contacts were erased. Beginning the week of October 5th, users were unable to access their data. Initially T-Mobile said all information would be restored within 24 hours. Soon 24 hours turned into a week. Finally T-mobile has issued a statement saying,
Regrettably, based on Microsoft/Danger’s latest recovery assessment of their systems, we must now inform you that personal information stored on your device – such as contacts, calendar entries, to-do lists or photos – that is no longer on your Sidekick almost certainly has been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger. That said, our teams continue to work around-the-clock in hopes of discovering some way to recover this information. However, the likelihood of a successful outcome is extremely low.
Social networks were on fire with T-mobile dissenters chiming in on their disgust with the mobile carrier. While others (myself included) were wondering who still uses a sidekick? T-mobile offered to recoup the victims of the data loss with one month free data service.
