Al Sharpton Chimes In on Limbaugh Rams Bid
Al Sharpton joined the myraid of players and NFL administration calling for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to block Rush Limbaugh from owning a portion of the St. Louis Rams.
In a letter sent 10/12/2009, Sharpton cited Rush’s latest comment in which he said that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and Bloods (rival California gangs). Sharpton argued that Limbaugh has been “anti-NFL” in his comments about several of the league’s players, specifically naming Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick.
Limbaugh confirmed rumors last week that he and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts are bidding for the Rams.
“Dave and I are part of a bid to buy the Rams and we are continuing the process. But I can say no more because of a confidentiality clause in our agreement with Goldman Sachs,” Limbaugh said in a statement. “We cannot and will not talk about our partners. But if we prevail we will be the operators of the team.”
On Monday, Limbaugh fired back at Al Sharpton saying
“Now, this saddens me as well this disappoints me,” he said. “I know Rev. Sharpton. Sharpton is better than this. He knows better than this. You know, I didn’t judge Al Sharpton’s fitness to be in radio when he wanted to earn an honest living for once, given his well-documented past as the author of the Tawana Brawley hoax. I believe in freedom and I also don’t discriminate.”
Of course, Limbaugh had to put a spin on it for his listeners. The Rev did not manufacture the Tawana Brawley story, he simply came to her rescue. In 1988, Tawana Brawley made up a story about being raped. She caused a fire storm of media attention. Later it was unveiled that she had lied. Sharpton took a lot of flack after the incident. Unfortunately, he can not control the intentions of others. While Tawana Brawley may have lied, Al Sharpton had no involvement in the making of her story. He didn’t even know the young lady when she originally reported the incident. He’s help a countless number of others since that time. Limbaugh’s listeners are often mislead,if I were one of them I would have turned off the show long ago, my BS meter can only take so much.
