Is Black Face En Vogue? French Vogue Balks at PC

Blackface Vogue

The October issue of French Vogue features a 14 page spread of  Dutch model Lara Stone in black face. The pictures were shot by Steven Klein and styled by French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld.

While the model is not dressed in outlandish adornments, the paint itself is quiet disturbing. Because this is being done on the pages of a popular fashion periodical it begs you ask, are there no black models suitable to grace the pages of ‘French Vogue’? Secondly, does Vogue have such a declining readership that being completely obnoxious is the only way to sell their magazines?

I’ll let you be the judge on this one …..Is this art? or asinine?

As for me, I can see this as appreciation of the black beauty which is indeed rare kind of beauty. Vogue perhaps is widening its scope and hopes to cater to a lot more market like the black community in 2010.
